Dandelion Days

Ice Storm in Iowa December 11, 2007

I just snapped these pictures a few minutes ago. These were taken just outside of our apartment from our patio. Thankfully the power has not gone out. Yet. The timing of this storm has been good for our family. I’m sick, and the University has closed for the day, so Zac is taking care of me and the girls (and trying to get a start on a paper). Poor Zac.

Streamlining the Christmas budget December 6, 2007

We usually don’t join in on the Christmas spending frenzy that overtakes America every year and this year is no different. So instead of going to some pricey or even not so pricey studio I decided to get the girls dressed up at home and snap some Christmas pics. well, I’m obviously not a professional, and my girls are obviously not the type to sit still and smile for me when I want them to. Here is the result of our little “session”.

This was snapped a moment before Sophia tried to choke affectionately hug Ellie.

This one is missing one important factor. Ellie. Oh, and a petal from the poinsettia.

Oh, here she is on the floor contemplating a nap.

After about thirty minutes of “please . . . sit down . . . look at Mommy . . . Don’t do that . . . pleaaaaase sit down” this is the best of about 60 shots:

Don’t worry folks, I won’t quit my day/night/middle of the night job for photography any time soon.

Hensley Happenings December 1, 2007

Lately in the Hensley Household naps have consisted of lots of mischief and playing, and not much napping. The past week or so after putting the girls to bed for their mid-day nap, within minutes the girls interrupt my manic productivity (my house is sparkling clean if you ever want to just stop by) with sounds of merriment and joy. Oooh, I wish someone told them that was the wrong sound for this time of the day. Usually I go into their room with a dark cloud over my head threatening doom and dread if they don’t do as they are told and go to sleep. Well yesterday when Zac went to put the fear of God in them miss Sophia had to use the potty ( a sure fire way of delaying nap-time). He took her to the bathroom and this is what he found. Count em’. Five pairs of underwear and a pull-up for good measure.

This picture was taken the day before Thanksgiving. The kids (that includes Zac) went outside for the season’s first snow. I stayed warm inside, turned up the heat a notch (because I got cold just watching my brood), locked the patio door and laughed evilly for five minutes.

And saving the best for last, here is my new son. Well, not really. Zac got a little too creative with his hi-liter and this is the result. After this incident I swear I heard Ellie utter her first words: “Je m’appelle Ellie”.
